Sound Quality

How well does the rhythm of the songs synchronize? Are the lyrics clear? These are the basic questions we always ask ourselves after purchasing or testing an audio device. Because yes, sound quality matters.

With JBL Boombox, there’s no space for disappointed when it comes to sound quality. The frequency response of 50 Hz – 20 kHz and dual 20 mm tweeter says it all. Crispy clear audio tunes even at high volume levels is what you can expect from this speaker.

Bass Effect

Oh yes! If you belong to the crowd who loves to play all the remix and DJ songs anytime, anywhere, the bass is something you go for initially while looking to buy a pair of speakers or headphones.

JBL Boombox is packed with four active transducers, so you can pretty much imagine how loud the output sound is going to be. Not just that, there are two bass radiators inside Boom box which will offer rumbling bass and trust me when I say ‘You can literally see and feel the bass all the way.’

Battery Life

Interference in listening to those chilly Sunday songs or that sudden sound break-off while watching a favorite movie, it’s infuriating, isn’t it? When we refer to wireless speakers, battery life is a real concern.

But worry no more. Because believe me on what I’m about to say, Boombox is featured with a whopping 20,000 mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery, yes you read it right.

It takes approximately 6.5 hours to charge from 0% to full. So, just charge it to its full capacity once, and enjoy the juice straight till you get bored. Along with 24 hours of playtime claimed by the brand itself, it can also charge your smartphones via dual USB ports. Just wow, isn’t it?

Bluetooth Connectivity

Yes, when we speak of wireless or Bluetooth speakers, the biggest pro is we get rid of short but long wires. But nothing is perfect, right? Even Bluetooth speakers once in a while face connectivity issues. So better choose the right one for you.

JBL built Boombox with Bluetooth version 4.2 in it which was the latest version in 2017 when this product rolled out in the market. That doesn’t make this speaker less advanced. Because it also has a feature of JBL Connect+ which lets you connect to other JBL speakers with the same feature.

As per happy users, JBL is said to have the best ranged wireless speakers, and Boombox is one of them. Straightaway go for this product if you love to do multitasking without constantly changing the position of the speaker or your mobile.

Waterproof

Getting scared of losing some bucks by ill-handling electronic devices near or underwater is normal. But technology has passed so far and beyond us. Waterproof is one such technology that changed the ways we carry our things in the rainy season.

Take the JBL Boombox literally anywhere you want because it comes with IPX7 waterproof technology. Submerge it underwater, keep it near the pool, and don’t ever miss out on those recent hit songs.

Durability

What’s the use of paying some serious amount to see that thing living its last hurrah just after a few months or a year of purchase date?

With Boombox, you can say that your investment is worth it. It is a bit heavy to hold in hand everywhere but JBL had to sacrifice the weight to build it with premium quality rubbery plastic material.

This rugged-looking yet tough and portable construction makes it durable and long-lasting as compared to other wireless speakers out there.

Sound Quality

Xtreme 2 will always be one of our favorite wireless speakers when it comes to sound quality. With frequency response lying within 55 Hz – 20 kHz, the output audio delivered is extremely balanced.

Alongside this, it has a sensitivity of up to 80dB which never fails to convey accurate music rhythms. Dual tweeters pave their way to add extra sound clarity so that you receive the quality of audio that you desire.

Bass Effect

If you are ready to speculate few extra bucks on a brand like JBL, honestly you don’t have to worry about the bass boost.

Considering JBL Boombox vs Xtreme, Xtreme 2 is the recent one and was first available in the market in June 2019. So, you get all that you expect from this. Dual passive bass radiators are placed on the sides of the speaker and oh boy, they are pretty loud and crisp even at medium and low-end frequency levels.

Battery Life

You must be thinking that JBL Boombox has 24 hours of playtime, and Xtreme 2 will be the same, but it’s unlikely.  So, how long does Xtreme 2 last? Well, JBL claimed to have featured Xtreme 2 with a 10,000 mAh Li-ion battery and lasts up to 15 hours.

We expected more from this in terms of battery life as it is one of the recent products from JBL. But it won’t be much of a concern for you if you are purchasing it for casual one-day trips with your buddies.

Bluetooth Connectivity

JBL Xtreme 2 supports Bluetooth version 4.2. Which means you won’t face any connectivity issues for sure. Two devices can be paired to this speaker simultaneously so you can amp up your party songs.

Along with that, it is packed with JBL Connect+ technology that allows you to connect to 100 other JBL speakers who support the Connect+ tech. Xtreme 2 offers near about 30 feet range which is good enough for in-house use.

It also comes with an AUX input support that lets you stream the music via your smartphones.

Waterproof

Now you can carry Xtreme 2 to the beach, shower, pool parties, and even a meter down inside water because it is protected with IPX7 technology.

If you are planning to submerge the speaker inside water, make sure to note that IPX7 is claimed to protect a device in water for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the company doesn’t guarantee anything but will let you know what to do.

Durability

First things first, Xtreme 2 is extremely easy to carry and handle because of its lightweight. It is coated with premium quality fabric and tough material which makes it durable as well. So light-weighted plus durable, sounds like a real deal, doesn’t it?

Sound Quality

With a frequency response of 70 Hz – 20 kHz delivers perfect audio tunes. The output sound quality might not be as great as JBL Boombox, but if you are looking forward to investing a small amount of money, you should definitely go for JBL Xtreme.

Also, 35 mm dual tweeters will offer you an extraordinary sound boost at all the volume levels.

Bass Effect

The Bass effect conveyed by this speaker is surprisingly good. At a given price point and considering competition with the other brands, JBL has done quite a work on its speaker segment.

Xtreme’s dual passive radiators will never fail to deliver that rumbling and loud bass. Also, 63 mm dual woofers work like charm. The only con is, you might feel the sound distorting at maximum volume levels while playing DJ songs. Apart from that, it serves well for small crowd parties.

Battery Life

Boombox is the winner already in terms of battery life but compared to Xtreme 2, Xtreme doesn’t have any noticeable changes in battery life.

It is stuffed with a 10,000 mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery and JBL claims that you can attain 15 hours of playback time after one full charge which should be enough for casual home use.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Xtreme supports Bluetooth version 4.1 whereas Xtreme 2 and Boombox support 4.2.

Xtreme uses an outdated Bluetooth chip but now you can receive calls with crystal clear conversation, thanks to JBL’s noise-canceling microphone located inside the speaker.

You can wirelessly connect 3 smartphones simultaneously which will help you boost up the music volume, stereo-like feeling. There are two USB slots for you to charge your smartphones as well (not recommended reason being the speaker’s battery drain faster).

Since JBL Xtreme is the oldest and rolled out in market 5 years ago, it lacks the Connect+ feature which is supported by the two speakers we mentioned above.

Waterproof

Seeing that we are in 2020, waterproof coating for all the electronics devices is a must, especially if you are thinking to spend a nice amount.

Since we are comparing JBL Boombox vs Xtreme vs Xtreme 2, Boombox and Xtreme 2 are IPX7 but unfortunately, Xtreme is not waterproof but if it’s any consolation, the speaker is splash-proof/water-resistant. This means that the speaker will work fine as long as it is passed through just splashes of water.

You cannot submerge water-resistant speakers and it is also recommended to avoid exposure to this kind of speaker in water for a long time.

Durability

Xtreme does lack some modern features but when it comes to portability and durability, it is no less than the other two speakers.

It is light-weighted and can be comfortably carried anywhere. Tough and premium fabric material housing increases the durability of this speaker to a desired proportion of the time.
