The Sonos Beam soundbar is a sleek smart speaker that delivers clear, immersive sound when listening to music, watching movies, playing video games, and more. It also allows you to communicate with virtual assistants like Amazon Alexa for easy and convenient voice control.

Designed to provide the best sound experience for smaller spaces, this compact soundbar features one tweeter, four elliptical full-range woofers with three passive radiators, and five smart drivers powered by Class-D amplifiers to help it produce balanced, three-channel surround sound that’s customized to your room’s acoustics.

The brand’s dedicated Trueplay software allows you to calibrate the speaker’s sound during setup by using your mobile device to scan the room. Backed by Bose’s legendary audio quality, the Solo 5 delivers big, booming sound in a sleek, compact package. Paired with your TV, the portable soundbar creates a dynamic, more immersive listening experience than through your TV speakers alone.

You’ll hear every rip and rumble from your favorite action film, with deeper bass and loud, room-filling sound.

Features Of Both Soundbars

Sound Quality

Since Sonos Beam vs Bose Solo 5 has been a hot topic lately, there were so many rumors regarding their capabilities and sound quality is one of them. Sound is of course why you’re buying an external soundbar for your TV.

Certainly, your set is able to playback any show or gaming experience you’re playing. But Beam was a definite improvement — and a big enough sound for our small apartment.

We have a room that’s about 300 square-feet — an open plan space that also includes part of the kitchen. Someone living in a large home, with a big family room, may want to spring for the Sonos Playbar, which has nine amplifiers and three tweeters, as opposed to the Beam which has just four woofers and one tweeter.

But Beam’s sound is good — full and bright. The dialog is far more clear, the bass is bigger, the sound is richer.

No matter if it was on Xfinity, Netflix, Disney +, or XM Radio this soundbar is a superstar. Again, Bose Solo 5 is not a $1,000 monster soundbar, so don’t expect miracles, but for a bedroom or even a living room where you don’t need a full theatre experience and you need good sound, it works great.

In-built Alexa and Google Assistant

Beam’s stand-out development is the inclusion of Alexa voice assistant. Besides setting up timers and looking up information, Alexa can control your TV. And I don’t just mean power and volume, either.

If you have a Fire TV device plugged in – the Amazon Fire Stick, for example – Alexa will help the Sonos Beam control that, too. You can use your voice to control what you watch.

Sonos is the first to support both Alexa and Google Assistant – and Apple Siri too. That last one is a pleasant surprise. You can get Siri to start playing a song on Apple Music, and then later control it with Alexa – seamlessly. This platform-agnostic approach helps Sonos reach more people since it’s always easier to buy something that fits into your existing ecosystem.

Having a voice assistant is a great way to enjoy your music or favorite shows without having to leave the couch, and even allows you to set the right mood with lights, thermostats and more to create the perfect mood for your movie night. Unfortunately, Solo 5 doesn’t have this function.

Control System

The Sonos Beam soundbar lets you experience incredible sound while streaming music, watching TV and films, enjoying podcasts and audiobooks, or playing computer games. And all with voice control thanks to Amazon`s Alexa.

The five far-field microphones detect your voice from any direction, anywhere in the room, even when the music is blasting and with AirPlay 2, stream directly from your Apple devices or ask Siri to play your favorites from Apple Music.

It also allows you to take full control of your media with the SONOS Controller app (iOS and Android). Available to download for free, it gives you the freedom to adjust volume, switch settings, and more.

The available connections of Bose Solo 5 are very basic with just optical, coaxial and auxiliary connections available in keeping with its budget price, although it’s good to see optical and coaxial cables included. There’s no HDMI port, so make sure that any device you want to connect has a coaxial or optical output.

You do get Bluetooth wireless but this doesn’t support the less-lossy codec, which is a shame. There’s also no NFC for quick-pairing your device.

There’s also not much in the way of different sound modes, either. Using the remote control, you can turn on a dialogue mode, which is designed to make speech clearer, but that’s it aside from the bass adjustment. It would have been nice to have seen other presets for watching sports or listening to music.

Our Verdict

To sum up the controversy between Sonos Beam vs Bose Solo 5, both the soundbars are unique and have special features. We hope now you got the idea and difference between both the soundbars.

Now choose anyone according to your budget and requirements. If you asked us which soundbar is best, to be honest, it’s Sonos Beam as it has many advanced features as compare to Bose Solo 5.

But it’s all up to you as everyone considers different aspects while buying a soundbar.
